CHOWAN COUNTY | The North Carolina Middle School Association has selected Chowan Middle School as one of three schools in North Carolina to be named as a "School to Watch." It is the only school in the Northeast region to receive the honor. The honor goes to schools judged to be well on their way to meeting the National Forum's criteria for high performance by demonstrating they are: academically excellent (they challenge all students to use their minds well); developmentally responsive (they are sensitive to the developmental challenges of early adolescence); and socially equitable (they are democratic and fair, providing every student with high-quality teachers, resources and support ).
